Even as believers we can slip into it so easily. We say “God first,” but the daily grind quietly takes over — bills, targets, the pressure of “how am I going to make it?” Before we know it, family feels distant, health starts fading, and that deep peace slips away. The world keeps pushing the same message: hustle harder, stack more, keep running. But that path always leaves us empty.
There is a better way — God’s way. It’s not vague or fluffy. It’s real and deeply practical. When we put Him first every day, there’s no room for idols, pride gets gently pruned, and burnout gives way to peaceful abiding.
Think back to the very beginning. In the Garden, before sin entered the picture, God walked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day. That was His original rhythm — unhurried time together, intimate fellowship, everything flowing naturally from relationship with Him.
After the fall, things changed. The ground was cursed, and work became toil “by the sweat of your brow.” What was meant to be joyful partnership with God turned into stressful striving. That was never His intention for us.
Jesus came to restore what was broken. He invites us back into that original rhythm of abiding — spending time with Him daily so everything else can flow from that place of rest and connection.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. — Matthew 6:33 (NIV)
Start your morning with Him. Open the Bible, pray simply, “Lord, lead me today,” and let praise rise. Fill your thoughts with what is true, noble, pure and lovely.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things. — Philippians 4:8 (NIV)
From this root comes strength when you’re overwhelmed, gentle pruning of pride, fresh strategy when you’re stuck, and redemption even in hard seasons.
